| Sophy's thoughts on Piper |
I never really liked Piper Perabo until I saw Imagine Me & You. I remember thinking Coyote Ugly looked stupid (anyway I was about 19 when that came out and of course way too cool for that kind of movie). The reason I wanted to watch IMAY was for Lena Headey, who I'd always thought was talented and gorgeous and who seemed to have been on the cusp of stardom forever. But Piper was a revelation for me. I was so impressed with her acting and her excellent British accent. And it's funny how once you see someone's talent on display you start to see how physically beautiful they actually are. But I suppose because Lena's character Luce was the really swoon-inducing one in the film the focus was still more on her. It was only really when I started reading and watching interviews with her that my Piper obsession began to take shape. I was surprised by how intelligent and articulate she was and by how down to earth she seemed to be. She has this incredible infectious energy about her and is funny and sweet and adorable. The impression I get is that Piper is just full of personality and an utterly unique and inspired person. I began to admire her more and more with everything I read about her. I was full of glee when I saw that her favourite piece of music was Chopin's Nocturne in E Minor. Mine is Opus 48 Number 1. The fact that she is educated, well-read, she can dance and wants to bring back the mashed potato, she can sing, she gets excited about being interviewed, she enjoys fishing and making dirty martinis with her norwegian grandmother...To me all this makes her sort of a role model and I see in her a lot of myself or at least of the person I want to be. When I saw Lost and Delirious my love for her shot up several levels again. She was just so emotionally brutal with her performance in that film and actually managed to make me cry a couple of times. So she made my heart burst with joy in IMAY, made me cry in LAD and now I just need to get my hands on a copy of Slap Her, She's French so she can make me laugh. |
| Rin's thoughts on Piper |
My story of how I came about to discovering Piper is similar to Sophy's, although I went and saw Coyote Ugly in the cinemas. Since I was about 13 at the time and anyone who hadn't seen it wasn't cool at all. I remember Piper in it, and how she was considered the next big thing, that movie was supposed to be her big break. Unfortunately, along with the rest of the world, I kind of forgot about Piper. At the time I wasn't the obsessed freak I am today, so I didn't think much of her, it was pretty much "Cool! They flip bottles and work in a BAR!". It was years and years later, and only when I saw Imagine Me & You that Piper came back onto my radar. I was 19 now, and was now mature enough to be an obsessed freak...wait, what? Anyway. I remember thinking, "Hey, that's the girl from Coyote Ugly!" I thought she was great in the movie and I loved Rachel, but let's be honest, it's really Lena that we all fall for in that movie. It was really her outstanding performance in Lost and Delirious that got me to open my eyes and see just how incredibly talented Piper is. Her acting in that film was flawless and second to none. Since then I have seen quite a few Piper films, and even though I don't exactly agree on the type of roles she has chosen to do, I can always see her talent shine through. Even if I have to fast forward through some movies just to get to Piper (i.e. Edison). It's not all bad though, I thoroughly enjoyed The Prestige and utterly loved Piper in a period role. She portrayed such a lovely character and gave a rememberable performance that resonates with you well after the film has ended. I also loved Piper's guest appearance on the hit tv show, House, but of course House is one of my all-time favourite tv shows, so there may be a little bias there. I also believe Piper is really genuine whenever she is being interviewed, and she is refreshingly honest and candid at times. She is ADORABLE pretty much all the time and she has this joyful energy that just radiates from her. She is also smart and pretty. *Shrugs* |
